Deer In The Night

Friday, January 28, 2011

We’ve had some beautiful snowy days and nights here in Michigan.  Sometimes we get a few inches and sometimes we just enjoy the beautiful flurries for an hour or so.  I love it when the flakes clump together to form what  I like to call Christmas card snow.

If you live in an area that gets snow you know that when the moon is out and the ground is snow covered it can be quite bright.  A few weeks ago I was up much later than I should have been.  I looked out and saw a deer in the street and another coming out from behind a house across the corner.  And another!  There were four in all.  They just roamed around the lawn across the street.  Then they came across the street and went beside our house into the back yard.  I quickly switched windows but something – probably me – spooked them and they took off.

I wish I had been able to take a picture to show you how beautiful they were.  As I was browsing around the internet I found this picture.  It could have been taken in our back yard that night.  They’re such beautiful animals.

I went outside a few weeks ago to look at the snow but the clouds had passed over the moon. At that time something with jumping and making all kinds of noise in the yard next door where it landed and stayed the entire time I was outside. It was a little spooky. I think it was a deer.
